Minis in Warcraft and World of Warcraft are Wrath Cadets, miniaturized versions of Wrathguard.
Wrath Cadets are about the size of a small child. They can be (at least sometimes) fully sentient and speech-capable, as evidenced by Durotar serving as an agent in the Postal Department.
This mini type was invented by Farseer-Lolotea, but we've lost track of where and when this took place, so Phobos' WoW mission is given as the first mention instead.
Canon Origin[]
The Wrathguard are members of the man'ari eredar, a species from a world called Argus, who became corrupted with fel magic into more demonic forms. During WoW's "Burning Crusade" expansion, the eredar invaded Azeroth, leading an army called the Burning Legion. Wrathguard served as the honor guard to the leaders of the Burning Legion.
Actual Wrathguard range from roughly eight to fifteen feet tall. They sport head horns, clawed feet and a tail, and wear armor. Wrathguard have a signature spell called Flame Wave, which casts a line of fire across the ground, harming anyone standing in its path. It is not currently known if Wrath Cadets can use Flame Wave as well.
