Kung Fu Panda is an animated film by DreamWorks Animation which has kicked off DreamWorks' next franchise of films.
The movies are about a panda (Po) who becomes one of the most powerful kung fu warriors in an anthropomorphized version of China.
Plot[]
At the moment, the Kung Fu Panda franchise consists of two films:
- The first film, released in 2008, is about Po, a noodle kitchen worker who is chosen by destiny to be the Dragon Warrior, much to the shock of even himself. He is also put under a time constraint because of Tai Lung, an escaped convict who seeks the legendary Dragon Scroll that only the Dragon Warrior may touch. This introduced most of the franchise's chief characters, including Master Shifu (a red panda) and the Furious Five (Tigress, Viper, Crane, Mantis, and Monkey).
- The second film, released in 2011, has Po comfortably in his role as the Dragon Warrior. However, a new villain by the name of Lord Shen creates a weapon that threatens the existence of kung fu; it is a weapon Shen intends to use to conquer China. With this, Po and the Furious Five set out to stop him, with Po finding out many things about his past.
The continuum also has an animated TV show in the form of Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, which takes place between the events of the two movies.
Kung Fu Panda and Fanfiction[]
Shipping fanfiction is not uncommon in fanfiction for the continuum, though the pairings are a little odd. Some of the more popular pairings involve some kind of match-up with Tai Lung, who also gets a great deal of fanfic dedicated to looking at him. Such fics have taken a dip since his lack of appearing in both the second movie and Legends of Awesomeness, however.
Most other fanfiction involving Kung Fu Panda naturally involves adventure stories starring Po and the gang. The typical pitfalls that can be found in fanfiction elsewhere can be found here.
Given the nature of Kung Fu Panda as a continuum, one can expect a very large number of OCs to crop up. This presents a very viable danger for Mary Sues to appear, particularly if giant pandas are involved as per the events of Kung Fu Panda 2.
