Kaguya Hazama (間 香久也 Hazama Kaguya) is a Department of Mary Sues agent written by KnShirayuki. He is partnered officially with Momoka Shigisawa and unofficially with Urato Tomiyama and Inasuke Akagashi, forming an unofficial agent ensemble called the Four Demonly Kings (四夜叉王).
Agent Profile[]
Appearance & Physical Characteristics[]
A 176 cm tall[3], strikingly handsome man firmly in bidanshi territory: straight, sleek black hair reaching his nape, black eyes and pretty lips. He pays attention to beauty, and more often than not wears hair decorations – either kumihimo cords or kanzashi hairpieces – and makeup, and occasionally wears reading glasses. He often wears Japanese clothes, with the most modern style he wears being Taishō male student attire, and owns a montsuki haori coat with the department flash patch in place of the mon on the back. Inasuke describes him as mistakable for a woman[4], and he has been compared to a lacquered kokeshi doll. His voice is described as like a combination of Yoshimasa Hosoya and Nobunaga Shimazaki[5].
From Four Demonly Kings episode (7) onward, his hair is much longer; it now reaches just below his hips, styled in a hime-cut.
Personality[]
A cultured, beauty-conscious man with a special interest for traditional Japanese culture and video games. He seemingly operates in two "modes": normally soft and pleasant and occasionally slightly playful, but when it comes to badfics, he is easily irritated and unforgiving in his criticism. While in latter "mode", he has a tendency to wind up in incredibly weird and amusing accidents, but nevertheless can carry out a Sue sentencing and killing when the moment comes due to catharsis.
He considers Urato Tomiyama an arch-enemy and he is the only person Kaguya is openly hostile to outside of Suvians.
He has been described as a yamato nadeshiko.[6]
From episode (7) onward, the behavior of his "angry mode" is different: rather than losing control over his body, he would always speak in a voice with an "eldritch quality", rendered in text as bizarre formatting. To date, only Momoka Shigisawa and Fáelán Portavius are able to comprehend his speech in this state; others such as Urato and Inasuke cannot understand it, and the Universal Translator cannot translate it.[7] However, his normal speech capabilities return when reading out charge lists.
His first-person Japanese pronoun is boku 僕[8][9].
Background[]
He was born to father Takeo 竹郎 and mother Mitsuki 満月 on June 21[6] (making him a Cancer) in World 1.3291 Hokkaido, Japan; his family is wealthy, employs multiple housekeepers, and owns a successful luxury hotel chain. He's trained in the Urasenke school of tea ceremony since the age of six, was president of tea ceremony club through middle and high school, and was granted the tea name Munehisa 宗久 at some point in his teenage years. He attended Ichōnomiya High (銀杏宮高等学校, also Ichoco いちょこう), where he was considered one of the four most popular club presidents[2]. When he reached final year of high school, his family took in Momoka. He joins the PPC at 20 years old while in university.
He is fluent in English and has tutored Momoka in it.
Relationships[]
- Momoka Shigisawa: His official partner and personal maidservant, who has been his housemate for years and had gone to the same high school as him. Despite their master-servant relationship, they're close and friendly, and tend to share fandoms. Kaguya greatly relies on Momoka's assistance during missions due to his "angry mode". SPOILER, highlight to view: From Four Demonly Kings episode (31) onward, the two are also in a romantic relationship.
- Urato Tomiyama: He and Kaguya have a long-standing rivalry due to their disapproval of each other's polar opposite behaviors; Urato sees Kaguya as old-fashioned, uptight and snobbish, while Kaguya disdains Urato's boorishness and lack of class. Kaguya never comments on Urato's professed attraction to him. Urato is noted to be the only person Kaguya ever uses the situationally hostile second-person pronoun anta towards[6].
- Inasuke Akagashi: Despite his professed dislike of him, Kaguya doesn't return the animosity and treats him in a friendly manner. Kaguya calls him Inasuke-kun as opposed to Tomiyama for Urato.
- Ichi the mini-daruma: Originally brought to a New Year Gift Exchange, but ended up in his possession. However, it is free-spirited and always wanders the HQ rather than stay with its adopter[10].

Trivia[]
- The agent's surname is a reference to the character Kan'ichi Hazama (間 貫一) from the novel The Golden Demon (金色夜叉 Konjiki Yasha) by Meiji author Kōyō Ozaki. His first name is a reference to the main character Lady Kaguya from the folktale Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. RC 381's first interlude reveals he's actually named after the fairytale character in-universe.
- His father Takeo is named after the bamboo cutter from the same tale. His mother Mitsuki's name means "full moon".
- The agent's backstory references that of the main characters of The Golden Demon. In the novel, the Shigisawa family takes in the orphan Kan'ichi, who falls in love with the family's daughter Miya. Here, the Hazama family takes in a female orphan with Shigisawa surname, and she falls in love with the family's son.
- His "angry mode" from entry (7) onward is inspired by the FanFic Critic's review of a badfic, in which the FanFic Critic acts as a translator for her friend who has been reduced to unintelligible rambling by the badfic.
