Istar (plural Istari) is the Elvish word for 'wizard' in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. Three of the five Istari are definitively known by name: Saruman the White, Gandalf the Grey, and Radagast the Brown. The other two, sometimes referred to as the Blue Wizards (and named as Alatar and Pallando in some of the versions of the tale), are missing in action and presumed corrupted or dead. In fact, the only Istar who was not diverted from his purpose to combat Sauron was Gandalf. Saruman went rather egregiously over to the side of evil, and Radagast found that he preferred talking to plants and animals.

Notable Istar Sues[]
- Alexis Moonbeam was the uncanonical daughter of Gandalf and Galadriel. She behaved like a spoiled brat despite supposedly being thousands of years old, casually handled the palantir that even Gandalf wouldn't touch, made fun of Gimli for being scared while venturing through the Paths of the Dead, and owned the 'spawn of Shadowfax', a horse named Quolful. Jay and Acacia dropped her from the top of Orthanc.

- Archir the Emerald was ostensibly Harry Potter, transported to Middle-earth and shrunk down into the body of a three-year-old for no good reason. Being a wizard in his own world, obviously he must be an 'Istari child' with a special color in Arda. He spent most of the fic asleep and being cuddled in people's laps, despite an OOC Gandalf's insistence that he would prove invaluable to the Fellowship of the Ring. He turned out to be an energy-sapping Sue-wraith dubbed a 'ficubus'.
