Earth's Children is a series of books by Jean Auel. The stories are set in the late Paleolithic period, during which two species of human beings, Neanderthals and Cro-Magnons, both exist. The main character is Ayla, an orphaned Cro-Magnon adopted and raised by a tribe of Neanderthals.
Although Ayla is a strong female character to begin with, some readers find her to be a Canon Sue in later books. Characteristics she has in common with many Sues include her tragic past, perfect physical appearance (according to modern standards of beauty, even), perfect love life, Cute Animal Friends, and a series of special abilities.
