Dead Space

Dead Space is a survival horror video game originally released for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in 2008. In a few short years, it rose to prominence as one of the biggest survival horror franchises of recent gaming. It was followed by a sequel, Dead Space 2, in 2011.

The first game concerns the exploits of Isaac Clarke, who finds himself on the USG Ishimura in the middle of a zombie-style outbreak of creatures called necromorphs. The sequel picks up with Isaac Clarke again three years after the events of the first game, this time fighting a necromorph outbreak on the Sprawl. Despite the fact that there are only two games, the franchise already has a sprawling universe that is developed in a tie-in novel, a comic, and a spinoff game called Dead Space: Extraction that was released for the Wii (and eventually for the Move on PS3). Almost none of them directly involved Isaac Clarke.

Dead Space and the PPCEdit

Nearly all Dead Space fanfiction focuses on Isaac Clarke, sometimes on his canon girlfriend Nicole, and sometimes on Ellie Langford, an NPC from the second game. Either way, these fics tend to share the same issue: OOCness. In all fairness to the badfic authors, though, it is difficult to characterize a large majority of the Dead Space canons, since very few of them are ever seen in a situation that does not directly relate to a necromorph outbreak.

This does not stop many authors from trying, though, particularly in the shipping fanfiction that has begun to sprawl all over the fandom.

However, the huge expanded universe has largely been ignored in most DS fanfiction.
