Babylon 5, sometimes abbreviated B5, is the name of a science-fiction TV series created by J. Michael Straczynski that aired from 1993 to 1998 and spawned seven film spin-offs.
The series takes its name from the space station on which most of the show's events take place. Babylon 5 is so named because it is the fifth station to have been built for the Babylon Project (the other four either blew up or, in the case of Babylon 4, vanished mysteriously). The station serves as a neutral meeting point for representatives of the various alien races in contact with Earth during the time of the show, which is the years 2257–2262. Each season of the show covers one year.
The most powerful races represented on Babylon 5 include the Minbari, the Centauri, and the Narn. But that's not counting the Vorlons, who are beyond a doubt the most powerful and mysterious of all the known species—and they have a penchant for asking infuriatingly vague questions and never giving a straight answer.
